I am about to date myself tremendously on this post. And it is going to take me a while to get to my point so please just bear with me.
When I graduated High School back in the 80s (yes the 80s), my Step-Mother took me to see the play "A Girl's Guide To Chaos" by Cynthia Heimel. It was my favorite thing ever. I quoted it constantly. And I was in total awe of the star, Debra Jo Rupp.
Yup - The mom from "That 70's Show". I loved her way long before her TV show. In fact, she is pretty much the reason I started watching that show in the first place.
Sometimes there are pop culture events in your life that just stay with you forever. This play is like that for me. And though I cannot remember everything about this play, there are a couple of things from it that have stuck with me. Like my ever-lasting girl crush on Debra Jo. And my awe of effective thrift shoppers which was a big theme in this play. Another big theme - and remember this was the 1980s - shoulder pads are not everything.
Advice that is still completely valid 30 years later..

The eighties featured shoulder pads on steroids. A little much and a little scary! The eighties style sure gives us lots of things to look back on and laugh at ourselves. I can't believe I dressed like that!
ReplyDeleteShoulder Pads on Steroids is what I should have labeled this post.
