Fringe Fantasy

I am getting a haircut this upcoming weekend and I am still grappling with the idea of cutting bangs. This is an ongoing argument in my head.  My hair is not naturally conducive to bangs as in its natural state it is a kinky mess.

But I waaaant them.  These are just a few of the pictures I am constantly bringing to my hair stylist [the fantabulous Amanda at Argyle Salon].

Francoise hardy with the perfect casual side swept bang

I know this is much older look from Jennifer Garner but I have always loved it.

Cute, right?  Super short side swept bangs.

Karlie Kloss with her super cute wavy banged bob

How many times do you think this picture of Katie Holmes has been shown to a hair stylist? Katie Holmes should demand royalties.

This last picture of Anna Karina is what got me to cut bangs the last go-round.  And I hated them.  They would not cooperate in the least and I spent weeks with my hair pinned back like a 12-year old school girl.

But still, they look cute right?  Maybe it would be different this time?  Amanda, what do you think???

Actually I know what Amanda thinks.  She was the one who cut those bangs the last time after I begged her to do so.  And she was also the one who went through the grow out stage with me. If it were up to her I would forget about the bangs.  And that is saying A LOT as she is usually game for whatever nonsense I want to do with my hair [Lob it? Sure! Grow it out?  Why Not!  Chop it all off and donate to Locks of Love? Lets do it!!].

I clearly have pushed poor Amanda over the edge with what to do with my fringe.

We did a "compromise bang" last time and it is not doing it for me.  It is neither here nor there.  Not a bang, but still too short to pull back.  Worst of both worlds.  I need to either commit to bangs or let these pieces grow out.

So maybe I should just let it be.  I do have some none bang inspiration as well.  These are the latest pictures I am obsessing over.
No I don't plan to go blonde or pink, but the bob is cute right?

Ok I realize I have not one but two pictures of ladies with cigarettes.  I do not smoke.  I quite a long time ago and it was very painful to do so.  I do not advocate smoking.  Just super cute hair.

And these ladies have super cute hair.  I realize I am showing all blondes.  I have no plans to go blonde.  I am always down for some highlights, maybe even the ombre look again, but I am too much of a brunette to go platinum.

If it seems as if I am talking myself out of bangs, let me remind you that the First Lady recently did this.

I highly doubt I am the only woman in America walking in to the hairdresser with a picture of the First Lady.  I wrote about Mrs. Obama's trend setting abilities once before.  It almost seems like the patriotic thing to do.

Any thoughts from the bullpit?  Should I be banging it out with the rest of the country?

  1. As I get older I find my side swept bangs make me look younger. They are very easy to cut yourself. I never go to the hairdresser anymore. There are hundreds of youtube videos on cutting side-swept bangs with a razor. So easy. I love mine.

    1. Your side swept bangs do look fantastic. I could add your picture to my inspiration list.

I am sure their are loads of tutorials but I would not trust myself to cut my own hair. At least not any more. There have been some incidents I just do not want to repeat.

  2. You could just order some clip in bangs from a hair extension store. I'm thinking about doing that. No growing out, no commitment, just clip and go. You can buy several different kinds of bangs from http://www.hairextensions.com/home.php?cat=41.

    1. Someone else mentioned this to me. I think I would need to go someplace and actually check it out in person. At least just to match my hair color. And to get a lesson on how to do it.
